Sailor Moo : Cow at Sea
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (July, 2002)
Authors: Lisa Wheeler and Ponder Goembel
Average review score:

Another Lisa Wheeler Delight!
"Sailor Moo: Cow at Sea" is another delightful picture book by Lisa Wheeler. This wonderful flowing rhyme tells a wonderful story of the pursuit of dreams, adventure, pirates and romance. Like Lisa's other books "Turk and Runt" and "Wool Gathering, A Sheep Family Reunion", she catches you up in her rhyme and makes you believe it is so. Lisa's sense of humor will make the adults giggle. This book is a must read for everyone young and old. Ponder Goembel was the perfect choice to illustrate this beautiful book.

It's "moo-sic" to my 5yr olds ears!
I just checked this book out from the library and my son and I LOVE it so much I'm now ordering it from Amazon. I'm also getting another copy to give as a gift for a friend's son who is also turning 5 years old. I have now found a book I enjoy reading to my child as much as I enjoy reading "Oliva" to him. It's a winner!

Udderly Irresistible!
Put this one on your gift list! An old-fashioned (cow)love story, told with hilarity in fun to read-aloud rhyme. Text and illustrations are wonderful!

The Silent Passage: Menopause (Wheeler Large Print Book)
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (March, 1993)
Author: Gail Sheehy
Average review score:

I panicked the day I sprung a whisker
but I feel better now, and I attribute my new outlook to having read The Silent Passage.

Tells You What Other Women Are Experiencing
Chapters are short and easy to read. This book deals not only with the technical aspects that most books do, but primarily with particular women's experiences with those various aspects--especially their feelings. This is what is left out of most of the other books. I recommend this book together with a more techinical book. But if you can only buy one book, buy this one instead. The main thing this book left me with was a feeling that instead of menopause being something that will just happen to me, there are a lot of things I can do, in a proactive sense, to manage the menopause. This is the most positive book I have seen on the subject, and helps me decide about all the questions to discuss with my doctor. Without reading this book, instead of being ready with a list of questions for my doctor, I would have passively listened to whatever he said, and thought that was it.

Sheehy knows of what she speaks!
I nodded; I smiled in sympatico; I grimaced in the knowledge that I too have experienced the same swings she describes. This book, like her others, tunes into the women's viewpoint. I have followed her career and her publications since Passages was first released and I believe her to be such a wonderful advocate for women's well-being both physical and psychological. What an asset we have. What seems to be this new realm of natural products and herbal supplements has become a great breakthrough for women's health. Just dosing yourself with a high powered birth control pill and "hoping for the best" is no longer the only option. It should go the way of male gynocologists. The Silent Passage should be a joyful one without fear of brittle bones or of cancer. A site that gives additional links and documentation to the use of herbals and natural supplements for all the areas of women's health is iHerb. They give women their due respect in offering products and good service and substantuating it all with documentation. This isn't just a store on line - it is a reader's resource as well.

Exploring Black Holes: Introduction to General Relativity
Published in Hardcover by Addison-Wesley Pub Co (12 July, 2000)
Authors: Edwin F. Taylor and John Archibald Wheeler
Average review score:

Terrific - but not easy
As other reviewers have said, Taylor and Wheeler accomplish something marvelous (and by conventional wisdom impossible), making a non-trivial portion of general relativity accessible to physics undergraduates. But be warned that "accessible" does not mean easy! A good background in special relativity is essential, for example from the authors' earlier book Spacetime Physics. Beyond that, readers must be prepared for convoluted reasoning and heavy duty algebra in some parts of the book, covering the more esoteric optical effects of black holes and the effects of rotation. It was an effort for me to get through this book - but well worth it.

Just wonderful!
This book is different from every other introduction to general relativity I know. And better. The eminent authors connect geometry directly to physics, bypassing tensors. Curvature in space is detected by very simple length measurements; curvature in time, by the lengthening of periods of oscillations. There are nuggets in almost every page. I loved the demonstration that you don't really need coordinates to describe geometry: the shape of a boat is reconstructed entirely in terms of distances. Their dynamical principle is the maximum proper time principle. The way they derive energy and momentum from this principle is sterling physics. You'll learn a lot of general relativity in this book. Not all of it. But, learning to love it, you'll learn the advanced topics that cannot be treated this way by yourself, in other books. Perhaps in the huge Misner, Thorne, Wheeler.

A Great Achievement.
I have not yet finished reading this book but my excitement over its brilliance forces me to comment. This book is shear magic in its ability to explain very difficult and strange phenomena in an intuitive and simple way. I have read the authors' book SpaceTime Physics as well as GR by Schutz and can do the tensors and all that; yet I am in awe of the ability these authors have of succeding at the near impossible. Using the study of black holes as the motivation for GR study is perfect. I love the choice of the variational principle to cut to the heart of the math. I recommend this book to anyone for self-study who has a smattering of calculus (not much is really needed). I am looking forward to studying Kip Thorne's membrane paradign book next. Gentlemen, kudos in the highest!

Lawdog: The Life and Times of Hayden Tilden (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Paper))
Published in Paperback by Wheeler Pub (February, 2002)
Author: J. Lee Butts
Average review score:

Another good western
Western fans will enjoy this book. There's lots of old west action with some romance. It is an enjoyable read and the story is well told.

WESTERN ACTION AT IT'S BEST
Jimmy Lee Butts has crafted a story of western action and adventure. Follow the life of Hayden Tilden as he and fellow marshall's of Judge Issac Parker's court bring law and order to a land full of every kind of outlaw. LAWDOG has it all...action, adventure, lead flying every which way and a little romance on the side. If your a reader of westerns, you'll enjoy LAWDOG. If your new to the western genra, LAWDOG is a great story to start with. LAWDOG IS A MUST READ! I'm anxiously awaiting the next Jimmy Lee Butts book.

LawDog-This was the best!
J.Lee Butts has produced one of the best westerns I've read in a very long time. I couldn't get enough of Hayden Tillman, who was not only tough but tender, kind, thoughtful and careful. The format of the story was delightful, moving back in forth between memories and reality.
The other characters in the story were well described and served to make the story a good one.
I hope Mr. Butts is planning to write sequels because I want to know the "rest of the story".

Never Alone: A Personal Way to God (Wheeler Large Print Book)
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (April, 1994)
Author: Joseph F. Girzone
Average review score:

Good book
Tells us how with Jesus we are never alone. It goes ito depth of his closness and assurance to call on and trust in him. It was one of the best and better then most self help books.

Wonderful Read!
Joseph Girzone is a retired priest. He has become a world famous author with his inspiring Joshua series, which I am just now starting to read. He shares with us his personal way to God in this book.

This is not a stuffy, strict, demanding book. It does not condemn you for your mistakes or faults. It is a peaceful and loving approach to faith that shows you God loves us all how we are. We are none of us perfect and the author emphasizes the fact that we are loved no matter what and if we open our hearts all will be well. He talks of how people in our age have been put off by religion. He tells us how religion and spirituality are not the same thing, and if we follow Jesus's life and example rather than do as is dictated by religion's leaders then we will be on the road we should be. God has a plan for all of us and our lives. He loves us even if we do not love him. He will wait for us to come to him and then he will open his arms. The author explains all of these things and tells of a God that loves so much rather than condemns.

I found this book to be touching and rather simple in what it had to say. Simple in a good way. Anyone can understand what the author is trying to say, and I found it all to be wonderfully inspiring and thoughtful. I love inspirational books and sadly most that I find are very boring, stiff, untouching. This is a great exception. I recommend it to anyone who wants to meditate on God and their own spirituality.

Heart warming and spiritually fulfillilling, A MUST HAVE !
A book for those really wanting to grow spirtually, Father Josheph those an execellent job at helping those currently in many churches starving for GOD. He provides the roadmap, in a simple to understand format. "May God Bless, Father Josheph"

And Justice There Is None (Wheeler Large Print Hardcover Series)
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (April, 2003)
Author: Deborah Crombie
Average review score:

Dependably Fine
I think it's clear that you can count on Crombie to come through with a fine, serviceable and well-crafted mystery. She is not going to win the Nobel for Literature since mysteries are only appreciated by those who "get it", but Crombie is a first-rate practicioner of good mysteries.

richly imagined
Deborah Crombie is a masterful suspense novelist. Her densely plotted "And Justice There is None" is concerned with mothers and babies of several generations. Policewoman Gemma James, whom we have met in earlier Crombie novels, is pregnant with the child of her lover, Duncan Kincaid. He finds a lovely place in Notting Hill to become home to their blended families, including the coming child.

The first murder victim, Notting Hill resident Dawn Arrowsmith, is also pregnant with her lover's baby; her husband, wealthy antique dealer Karl, had a vasectomy years ago.(Those readers who saw the Julia Roberts/Hugh Grant film, "Notting Hill", can easily visualize the gentrified neighborhood.)

As usual with Crombie's work, the plot quickly thickens and the reader's interest will intensify accordingly. Several mother/child relationships are uncovered as Gemma pursues the killer. (I wonder if Crombie herself was pregnant while writing this book. One would think so.)

"And Justice There is None" is a mystery done up to perfection, including authentic British-English (Car Park for parking lot, Inland Revenue for IRS, mobile for cell phone, and so on) despite the fact that Crombie lives in Texas. Recommended.

Superb novel about a series of mysterious deaths.
"And Justice There is None," by Deborah Crombie, is an excellent addition to her mystery series featuring Scotland Yard Detective Duncan Kincaid and Inspector Gemma James. Duncan and Gemma were once partners, but some time ago, their relationship moved beyond the professional. Gemma is now expecting Duncan's child, and they have decided to move into a home together.

Meanwhile, James is investigating the brutal homicide of a lovely young woman named Dawn Arrowood. Dawn had a much older husband and a young lover, and either one might have killed her in a fit of anger or jealousy. The case becomes more complicated when Duncan ties it to a similar unsolved murder. Soon, a third murder occurs, and the pressure is on for James and Kincaid to find the perpetrator quickly.

Crombie brings a whole array of characters to vivid life in this novel. There is Dawn's husband, Karl, an antiques dealer who has tried to forget his humble beginnings, and who now behaves with ruthless arrogance. Dawn's lover, Alex, is also an antiques dealer, but, unlike Karl, he is extremely sensitive and emotional. Also figuring in the complicated plot is Angel, a mysterious woman who descends into poverty and hopelessness when her parents die. Suddenly, a handsome man who pretends to be her savior rescues her, but Angel finds out that her rescuer is not the man that he appears to be. All of these people are inextricably bound together, and only by understanding how these and other lives have interconnected in the past, can Duncan and Gemma get to the bottom of the murders. In addition, Duncan's and Gemma's relationship is strained not only by the challenging homicide investigation, but also by the impending changes in their domestic arrangements.

"And Justice There is None," is a deeply felt psychological novel that deals with the nature of true love and commitment, as opposed to relationships based on infatuation and manipulation. Crombie also explores one of the favorite themes of mystery writers, namely how the secrets of the past come back to haunt people many years later. This is a well-written and intricate mystery that will enthrall Crombie's fans and leave them eager for the next novel in the series.

Prizes (Wheeler Large Print Book Series (Cloth))
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (August, 1995)
Author: Erich Segal
Average review score:

Magnifico!
First, the characters are great. Their descriptions are very thorough. You can almost see them, as if they really are true persons. Second, the plot of the story is very well-defined. Third, the flow of the story is well-timed.

Review of Erich Segal's "Prizes"
Prizes is an truly terriffic book. It has a plot similar to that of a daytime soap opera, however, it is much more sophisticated and realistic. Although very exciting with many interesting twists and turns, the book displays a strong theme of man's selfish nature, and causes one to take a serious look at the ethics of the world today. The themes of great human achievment and perseverence are also prominent. I enjoyed "Prizes" thouroughly, and I strongly recommend it for readers seeking a well developed, entertaining story.

One of Erich Segal's best!
This is the second book I've read from Erich Segal, the first being "The Class", and all I can say is that its a very, very enjoyable book to read. I can't put it down. After this, I'm looking forward to buying his other books as well. Good work, Mr. Segal.

Managing the Customer Experience: Turn Customers into Advocates
Published in Hardcover by Financial Times Prentice Hall (29 October, 2002)
Authors: Joe Wheeler and Shaun Smith
Average review score:

Not just philosophy, but how to design around the customer
Unlike others in the field, Wheeler and Smith lay out what you need to do to consciously design a business that consistently gives the customer an experience that lives up to their brand. In the rush to cost control, we often forget that it's easy to make life difficult for the customer, and the result is massive damage to the brand, even to the point of destroying the organization.

A must read, especially in uncertain times, where the tendency will be to cut, without regard for the customer.

a must read for CEO's
As the CEO of a software company, I have been searching for PRACTICAL advice for enhancing the experience for our customers. Most books I have seen are full of theory and are basically worthless. If you don't walk away from this book with a list of action items, then you obviously don't care about serving your customers.

I believe that this book will be on my desk as a reference for a long time. It will take a couple of years to implement all that I learned.

Definitely worth the read!

Managing the Customer Experience
We all know that the customer has already become the decision maker of company operations in the digital economy. Without custmers, no company can survive. Shaun's book certainly uncovers the secrets on how to sustain the performance and growth of the company. He illustrates his proven model with a number of cases we can benchmark. In this regard, I dare to say that this book may be used by all business people as the bible of management.

No Man Standing: A Munch Mancini Crime Novel (Wheeler Large Print Hardcover Series)
Published in Hardcover by Wheeler Pub (October, 2002)
Author: Barbara Seranella
Average review score:

Another winner
I am continually impressed by this author. Her characters are wonderfully developed and the stories fast-moving. She just gets better and better.

Fabulous, Must-Read Series
I discovered Munch Mancini on a rainy, dreary Friday while cruising www.Amazon.com and went to the library and checked out all the books in the series and had a spectacular weekend Munch read-a-thon. I loved every single book. She gets better and sharper with each consecutive story. Ms. Seranella's stories have the flavor of hard-core reality with just the right touch of suspense and plot twists. No writer I've ever read has the drug scene down the way she does....you can feel the despair and hopelessness of the characters radiating from the pages....and then comes Munch, a ray of hope as one who escaped the druggie lifestyle, a true survivor. Thanks Ms. Seranella for a great series. Keep 'em coming!!

Loved it.
Love the character, love the stories that only get better with each book, love everything about it. Can't wait for the next one.
